Dark Odyssey:
40 Years of Photojournalism by Philip Jones Griffiths
Dark Odyssey is an exhibition of 100 photographs spanning four decades of work by acclaimed photojournalist Philip Jones Griffiths. Renowned for his unflinching documentation of war, famine, and civil unrest across over 140 countries, Griffiths began his career during the Algerian War in 1962.
His images gained him membership in the prestigious Magnum Photos in 1966. That same year, he began covering the Vietnam War for LIFE magazine, eventually producing the influential book Vietnam, Inc. in 1971. The book, a powerful critique of the U.S. military and political leadership, played a key role in shifting American public opinion about the war.
Griffiths' work is known for going beyond graphic depictions, aiming instead to expose the deeper political and cultural forces behind conflict. His humanistic perspective asserts that true change requires understanding the causes of war. His recent assignments include coverage of Burma, India, and the U.S., maintaining his commitment to social truth through photography.
