Both Art and Life:
Gemini G.E.L. at 25

Curated by Mark Rosenthal

Celebrating 25 years of artistic innovation, Both Art and Life highlights the achievements of Gemini G.E.L., one of America’s leading printmaking workshops. Founded in 1966, Gemini has fostered a collaborative environment where artists enjoy creative freedom and technical innovation.

The exhibition features 60 works by prominent artists including John Baldessari, Roy Lichtenstein, Robert Rauschenberg, Richard Serra, Ellsworth Kelly, and Claes Oldenburg, representing a range of styles from Pop Art to minimal abstraction. The selected prints reflect the dynamic evolution of contemporary printmaking and the enduring relationships between artists and master printers. Educational text panels and photographs of the artists at work provide insight into diverse printmaking techniques. First presented at Newport Harbor Art Museum in 1992, the exhibition marks a milestone for Gemini, whose impact has shaped a modern renaissance in printmaking. A major accompanying publication includes artist interviews by curator Mark Rosenthal and documentary images from the Gemini workshop.
